Keara grew up in Ridgewood, NJ and was raised in a union household. She flexed her political muscles for the first time with the Young Democrats of New Jersey as a volunteer before she was old enough to vote. In college, Keara studied government and served as the Secretary and the Vice President of the Hamilton College Democrats. After her junior year of college, she spent the summer in the inaugural class of New Era Colorado’s Democracy Fellowship, and fell so in love with Denver’s local politics that she moved here full-time less than a week after submitting her senior thesis.

After graduating, Keara went on to serve as the Denver Program Manager at New Era, facilitating six internship classes and running their Denver-area mobilization program. She then worked worked as the GOTV Coordinator for the successful Jefferson County School Board recall as part of the Clean Slate campaign coalition under Representative Brittany Pettersen. After a successful campaign, she joined the sales team at Signpost, a tech startup in downtown Denver, where she clocked thousands of cold-calls to small business owners. Since then, Keara has returned to the labor movement as the Political & Affiliate Organizer at the Colorado AFL-CIO, where she coordinates and trains members from over 172 unique unions in electoral and political work.

Throughout her time in Denver, Keara has participated in a wide variety of professional and recreational community service roles. She served on the executive board of the Colorado Families for a Fair Wage coalition, regularly participates on the America Votes civic engagement roundtable, and attends Built In Colorado’s bimonthly technology events. She also volunteers monthly at Urban Peak youth shelter with Off The Matt Colorado. Her passion is simple: bringing like-minded people together to make our communities more inclusive, more influential, and more just.

Keara is excited to bring this passion and energy to the DYD board as Community Liaison.
